Meet Theo Nabben

Ongoing improvement of SW WA Hub activities is a central focus for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager Theo Nabben.

Mr Nabben describes MEL as bringing clarity to design, tracking work to allow for adjustments, and building adaptability into current projects and future planning.

“An important part of MEL is getting upfront clarity about what you intend to achieve and plotting the logical steps of how that will happen,” he says.

Mr Nabben helped the hub to set up its MEL frameworks in 2021 and then joined the team mid-2022.

He has specialised in MEL since 2006 when he first provided training in this area to staff from the then Department of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA) and Natural Resource Management groups.

Mr Nabben says the ‘L’ in MEL – the learning stage – should not end when final reports are submitted.

“Learning from one project or activity helps build our knowledge for the next one. It’s a process of continual improvement both for people and organisations,” he says.

More information about Mr Nabben is on the GGA staff biography page.
