Sharpen your extension skills with the South-West WA Hub’s training program

The South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (SW WA Hub) is inviting grower group staff, consultants, researchers and extension professionals to join its Extension and Adoption Training Program in May – a practical, five-part professional development series designed to strengthen agricultural extension skills across Western Australia.

“Effective extension is key for turning research into real-world practice,” said SW WA Hub Director, Dr Jo Wisdom.

“It helps farmers gain the knowledge and confidence to adopt innovations that improve farm productivity, sustainability, and climate resilience.”

Running throughout the month of May, the program offers around 18 hours of training delivered by experienced facilitators from the SW WA Hub. The content is suitable for both experienced professionals looking to elevate their approach, and newcomers wanting to build confidence in extension delivery.

“Participants will walk away with practical tools to define project priorities, develop extension and event plans, sharpen facilitation techniques, and build basic monitoring and evaluation frameworks,” Dr Wisdom said.

“This is a great opportunity for agricultural professionals to build their extension toolkit, connect with others in the industry, and elevate their impact in supporting farmers.”

The program is designed for flexibility. Modules 1 and 2 will be delivered face-to-face at the Pagoda Resort and Spa in Como on 8–9 May, while modules 3, 4 and 5 will run online on 15, 21 and 28 May. Attendees can register for the full program or select the sessions most relevant to their work.

Places for the in-person sessions are limited and expected to fill quickly. Subsidised tickets are available for SW WA Hub consortium partners and Grower Group Alliance (GGA) network members ($75 face-to-face, $40 online, plus GST and ticketing fee), with general industry pricing set at $160 and $80 respectively (plus GST and ticketing fee).

“The SW WA Hub, which is led by GGA and supported by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund, is committed to equipping agricultural professionals with the tools to support resilient, thriving farming systems,” Dr Wisdom said.

“Our Extension and Adoption Training Program is a key step in that mission.”
