Study tour to Victoria and Tasmania will explore climate-smart farming

Western Australian farmers, researchers and agronomists are invited to join an interstate study tour exploring climate adaptation and innovation in agriculture.

The South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (SW WA Hub) will lead a fiveday study tour to Victoria and Tasmania from 31 August to 5 September 2025, visiting farms and research sites focused on drought resilience, agtech, and water-smart farming.

The tour will give participants direct access to successful strategies for managing climate variability in intensive livestock, mixed cropping, and horticultural systems.

“This is a valuable opportunity for growers to see firsthand how others are responding to climate challenges in different production systems and conditions,” Hub Director Dr Jo Wisdom said.

“Participants will gain practical insights into tools and strategies that can be applied to Western Australia’s climate and production systems for effective management through seasonal variability.

“It’s also a chance to build meaningful connections with fellow growers, researchers, and industry leaders who are working on similar challenges right across Australia.”

Organised in collaboration with the Victoria and Tasmania Drought Resilience Hubs, the tour offers a unique national perspective on how farmers in other regions are adapting to change.

With just 15 places available, interested participants are encouraged to apply early. The SW WA Hub will cover the cost of accommodation, most meals, and all bus travel (valued at $2,000). Participants are asked to contribute a $500+GST non-refundable deposit, and cover their own flights, travel insurance, and incidentals.

This initiative is part of the SW WA Hub’s broader mission to support South-West Western Australia’s farmers and communities adapt to climate challenges. Funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and led by the Grower Group Alliance, the SW WA Hub plays a key role in supporting the adoption of drought resilient practices in South-West Western Australia.
